description:

A movie consisting of three parts, basically telling the story of two people, Tohno Takaki and Shinohara Akari, who were close friends but gradually grow farther and farther apart as time moves on. Takaki and Akari become separated because of their families yet continue to exchange contact in the form of e-mails. Yet as time continues to trudge on, their contact with one another begins to cease. Years pass and the rift between them grows ever larger. However, Takaki remembers the times they have shared together, but as life continues to unfold for him, he wonders if he would be given the chance to meet Akari again as the tale embarks on Takaki’s realization of the world and people around him.

info:

source: blu-ray
resolution: 1904×1072 (anamorphic 1906×1072)
video codec: h264
audio codec: 5.0 flac
audio languages: japanese
subtitles: english (ass, srt)

note:

the audio was originally 3.1 pcm, which got upmixed to 5.0 flac. only ac3 is capable of holding it in its 3.1 multichannel combination. the .1 audio is basically background noise seperated from the center voices, but else is totally identical, hence pretty useless in the first place and got shifted to the rear channels.

  1. @niizk

I’m no expert regarding video en-/decoding but chosing a non-standard resolution (so neither 720p nor 1080p) breaks as far as I know any hadware accelerated Playback (maybe with the exception of coreavc)…

I believe most hardware accelerated solutions would be broken already by the High@L5.0 H.264 profile used. DXVA however works, but you would have to use an internal subtitle renderer.

CUDA is broken by the 16 Ref Frames used, so that’s just another limitation (seems to work when using CoreAVC 2.0, at least in Win7 for me).
